Host an Arriving Refugee

Hosts welcome arriving families at the airportHost families provide a safe, hospitable place for refugees for up to two weeks after they arrive and begin to connect refugees with life-giving, life-sustaining relationships. Many refugee families step off the plane in Seattle and don’t know a single person.

Host families welcome arriving refugees at the airport. They also provide:

  • Food and housing for one to two weeks
  • Basic lessons on home appliance use, including washer and dryer
  • Instruction on basic housekeeping skills
  • Introduction to the community (grocery store, post office, etc.

Prior to hosting, families must:

  • Fill out an application, including a background check
  • Attend a volunteer orientation
  • Have a home visit from the volunteer coordinator
