Casework Manager

World Relief is now accepting applications for a full-time Casework Manager to begin in September or October 2008.

    Responsibilities
    • Oversee and coordinate Resettlement and Placement (R&P) Program activities for compliance with cooperative agreement and progress towards goals.
    • Supervise Resettlement Counselors, assigning caseload, providing ongoing training and program leadership, and overseeing paperwork and services to clients
    • Support casework staff in serving newly arriving refugee families through availability for questions, community orientation, resource management, and developing relationships in the community to secure housing and other basic needs.
    • Recruit, coordinate and supervise on-call interpreters.
    • Ensure case files have all necessary documentation and that case notes describe essential areas of resettlement, and progress towards self-sufficiency.
    • Ensure that R&P program reports are completed properly and in a timely manner.
    • Report regularly to Resettlement Director about R&P program activities, needs and challenges.
    • Maintain close communication with Volunteer Coordinator, Resettlement Support Manager and Employment staff in order to coordinate effective service to clients.
    • Assist Resettlement Director with monitoring program spending, recruiting and training casework staff, and other related tasks as needed.
    • Maintain a resettlement caseload as necessary.
      Qualifications
      • A desire to serve Jesus Christ in ministering to refugees.
      • Familiarity with refugee resettlement process highly desirable.
      • 1-2 years experience working in a multi-cultural, social service setting required.
      • Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
      • Intermediate computer knowledge, including MS Office and the ability to learn new programs.
      • Management experience a plus.
      • Flexibility in schedule and a desire to learn a must.

      Americorps ESL Program Assistant

      World Relief is now seeking applicants for an 11-month Americorps service member to begin in September 2008.

      Overview:

      The Americorps ESL Program Assistant will serve recently arrived refugees by assisting in multi-level ESL classes, tutoring refugees individually or in small groups, and supporting volunteers to do the same.  The Americorps member will serve refugees from many different ethnicities alongside experienced ESL professionals.          

      Roles and Responsibilities:

        Assist in teaching multi-level ESL classes four times weekly to adult refugees in LEP Pathways program

      Assist with administering CASAS testing to measure student progress

      Monitor student progress and achievement, directing additional resources and attention to pre-literate students and others who are struggling

      Tutor 3-4 adult refugees who cannot access regular ESL classes or who have significant barriers to literacy, individually or in small groups

       Assist with recruitment and orientation of volunteer Cultural Companions (ESL tutors and volunteer advocates)

       Conduct quarterly financial literacy workshops in conjunction with resettlement staff for newly arrived refugees, teaching basic budgeting skills, encouraging healthy financial decisions and saving     

      Help maintain student files in an organized and confidential manner, including intake information and standardized test results

        Maintain regular communication with volunteer ESL tutors, providing technical assistance, resources and advice as necessary

       Co-facilitate initial and ongoing trainings for volunteer ESL tutors and other literacy-related volunteers

       Assist in workplace literacy classes as able and necessary

        Help coordinate two volunteer in-service events focusing on literacy and ESL tutoring

       Refer students to appropriate social service staff as needed when additional needs arise

      Qualifications

        

      A desire to serve refugees in support of the overall mission and work of World Relief

        Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds

        Prior teaching or tutoring experience desirable, especially in multi-cultural environments

        Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple duties

        Flexibility, initiative, and a desire to learn

        Experience working or volunteering with refugees and/or non-native English speakers very helpful

        Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

        Knowledge of a second language a plus

        Intermediate computer knowledge, including MS Office

      Literacy*AmeriCorps is an 11-month national service program requiring 1700 volunteer hours. Member volunteers receive an $11,400 stipend, health care, valuable training and experience, and a $4,725 education award issued at completion of service to help pay student loans or tuition.
